InnoVfoam optimizes fire detection system for Shell

Wednesday 26 February 2014

Currently InnoVfoam is installing a fire detection system for Shell Refinery in Pernis (the Netherlands) on 42 oil storage tanks. The system is used for early fire detection near the flexible seal between the floating roof and the rimseal.

For the connection of the detection system on the floating roof and the top platform of the tank, InnoVfoam developed a flexible system: a strong, oil resistant spiral cable with a collector that guides the spiral cable when the tank roof is rising or descending.

During one of the many tests that were executed with the collector at the InnoVfoam headquarters in Oudkarspel (NL) we concluded that optimization to the collector was needed. During strong wind or storm even, it was possible that the cable landed outside the collector. To prevent this issue, InnoVfoam developed a collector in a larger cone shape, which is shown on the photo’s below.

In the presence of the project managers from the Shell Refinery InnoVfoam proved the functionality of the system.
